Which copy do you have?
Newsstand vs. direct edition
Copies sold in comic shops (the direct edition) have artwork where the barcode would be and are far more common today. Copies sold at newsstands and supermarkets carry a UPC barcode. Far fewer newsstand copies survive in high grade, so in top grades they often sell for more than direct copies.
Original vs. the 2023 facsimile
Marvel reprinted the issue as a facsimile edition in 2023, with the same cover art, including a foil cover version. Facsimiles carry a modern cover price and a 2023 date in the indicia. If the cover price isn't $1.50 and the small print on the first page (the indicia) doesn't date to 1988, it's the reprint, and it sells for a small fraction of an original.
Homage covers
Many later comics copy the famous #300 cover pose. These are different comics, not versions of #300, even when the cover looks the same at a glance.

Why is Amazing Spider-Man #300 worth so much?
Venom's story builds over three issues: Eddie Brock first shows up briefly in #298, Venom makes a cameo in #299, and #300 is his first full appearance. Collectors treat #300 as the key. Venom went on to headline his own comics and three films, which keeps demand high. The issue also comes early in Todd McFarlane's run on the series, and it's the first issue of his run that he inked himself as well as penciled.

Amazing Spider-Man #300: common questions
How much is Amazing Spider-Man #300 worth?
Original 1988 copies sell for real money, and the price climbs steeply with grade. A fair value for your copy is what the same grade and edition actually sold for recently. Use the "sold prices by CGC grade" links above rather than asking prices.
Is the newsstand edition worth more?
In high grades, usually yes: far fewer newsstand copies survive in top condition. In lower grades the difference is small. Compare newsstand and direct sales at the same grade.
What is the first appearance of Venom?
Amazing Spider-Man #300 (May 1988) is Venom's first full appearance. Venom has a cameo in #299, and Eddie Brock first appears briefly in #298.
Is the facsimile edition worth anything?
It's a 2023 reprint, so it sells for far less than an original. High-grade and foil copies can still have collector value. Check the facsimile sold link above.
Who drew Amazing Spider-Man #300?
Todd McFarlane penciled and inked the interior and drew the cover. David Michelinie wrote it.
